Stationery and office supply industry body Boss has appointed Amy Hutchinson as its next chief executive.

Hutchinson: “It is a different industry, but with many similar challenges and opportunities to print”

Hutchinson, who currently serves as marketing director at the BPIF, will depart that position to formally take on the Boss role full-time after the BPIF members’ day on 9 July.

She succeeds Philip Lawson, who will leave after three years in the role and is taking early retirement to spend more time with his family. Hutchinson is now starting a process of working with Lawson to transfer into the new role.

Hutchinson told PrintWeek: “My role will involve looking after all of the Boss members, running all of the events that Boss does and hopefully connecting the industry, enabling people to network, get together and inspire each other.

“There are certainly some members we have that are the same though it is a different industry, but with many similar challenges and opportunities to print.”

She added: “I’ll very much be using the next few months to understand how best Boss can serve its members and how to add value to their businesses. I’m definitely going to embark on the process of meeting as many of them as I can and getting out and about in the industry, and then building on it from there.

“I’m engaged with a number of projects with the BPIF which I very much want to finish and ensure they are up and running. So I’m going to continue to work on them until July, when there will be a transition after our members’ day.”

Boss chairman Geoffrey Betts said: “[Amy is] already well known to many members, as she has brought her and her team’s expertise and energy to help the successful development of Boss, notably at the annual awards, the Leaders of the Future Conference, and all of Boss’s main membership engagement activities.

“During [Philip’s] time with us, Boss has developed its position, widened its engagement with members and enhanced its reputation as the representative trade association for our wonderful, fast changing and forward-looking sector.

“Amy will build on that foundation, bringing a strong marketing, events and membership engagement perspective to the development of Boss.”

Lawson added: “I’ve worked closely together with Amy over the last few years and she will be outstanding as our chief executive. She already has a good knowledge of our industry, as well as knowing a lot of our members through her work at Boss events.

“Her previous experience helping to build both the profile of the BPIF and her own personal brand within the print sector will be a huge advantage.”
